Bayside Grooming Co. Water Based Pomade Review

This is the continuation of the Bayside Grooming Co. Series where this time we are introducing their latest craft – The Water Based Pomade. Compared to our previous review of the Original Clay, I would say this is a different product that caters to those who wants much stronger hold with better endurance, especially if you are living in a humid and hot condition. So what’s so special compared with all the pomade out there in the market? Let’s find out how this craft stood out from the rest ;)

Brand

Bayside Grooming Co

Origin

Newcastle, Australia

Type

Water Based Pomade

Design and Packaging

Very similar to its brother – The Original Clay, the material used for the packaging is the same. The only difference is on the color used which is a much darker grey as its base. In terms of labeling, it claims to be stronghold, low shine, and aloe-based (instead of your normal water as the based for most pomades)

Again, this product also weighs at 96g. So, gentlemen, please feel free hand carry them on your flights.

Scent

The scent is very similar to the Original clay. It is refreshing, light , and on the sweeter side. The only difference is there’s a hint of bergamot instead of the coconut used in the Original Clay. It is a little bit stronger than Original Clay, feels like a refreshing cologne with a pleasant aroma.

On their site it is mentioned with the following notes: lime, bergamot, coconut, bay leaf, patchouli, cedar, pine needle.

Based on personal preference, I would say this one is one par with Morris Motley’s Treatment Styling Balm, The Apothecary Malaysia’s Analogue Paste and Byrd’s Matte Paste.

Texture

This product much smoother and creamier than the Original Clay and and Morris Motley’s Treatment Styling Balm (TSB), it’s easy to scoop out and not greasy at all.

It is as soft as the TSB.

Application

As a water based product, it can be applied both on dry hair or towel dried hair. As for this test, I applied on a dry hair.

Very little to no tug during application. It took around 2 -3 coin size scoop to get my short hair styled. Breaking it down on my hand palm was easy

Restyling

I do not have to restyle as often as the Original Clay because the hold was much better.

However, when restyling was required, it was really easy. Don’t feel any tug to it and I am able to restyle either using my fingers or comb. There’s no need of any water required for restyling.

Shine

Low Shine

Volume

Works superbly almost throughout the day! Use it a hair dryer for better volume.
