Flagship Black Ship Water Based Pomade Review

Flagship is one of the well-known home-brew brand who has grown to a significant size. Today, they have 3 main product lines: the Flagship Handmade, the Flagship Small Batch and the Flagship Streamline. Each of them represents its own identity and purpose to meet the different needs in the market. We are blessed to have them send us a few of them to try them on. Today, we are looking in one of the Flagship Handmade products – the Flagship Black Ship Water Based Pomade. This line of products are invented with a simple goal in mind: to provide healthy, natural, vegan styling product.

The main difference with other product lines is it uses the highest quality essential oils, nourishing oils and waxes to not only for styling, but also to protect the hair. Though this product has been around 2 -3 years, but it seems to be popular among other brands especially in terms of its strong hold. Our curiousness led us to no hesitation into trying them!

Design and Packaging

The design on the Black Ship Water Based Pomade reminds me of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. It is stored in a semi-transparent brown jar with a black cap. The jar is solid hard. On the labels, it has great design edges like a burnt teared cloth (similar to how a pirate flag would be). The mentioning of water based, heavy hold and vegan on the label prints is what one should expect of this product.

Scent

This is one of the most soothing and fresh scent product. It contains Dark Citrus Rose: Petitgrain, Bergamot, and Rosewood blend that is fresh and clean. Somehow, it reminds me of the aroma of earl grey tea . It is not overpowering, yet strong enough to have a hint of it during the day. This is definitely one of my favourite pomades in terms of scent. Well crafted.

Texture & Application

For its texture, compared to normal water based pomades such as the Gold Finger Pomades or Barbers Pomade, it is actually thicker. It feels like a heavy waxy cream product, which reminds slightly of the Arcadian Matte Paste. To scoop it out, the best way would be rubbing on the top in circular motion. It does not feel greasy, but it’s a little sticky.

Breaking it down and rubbing on the palm was easy. Style it with your hands and comb was a breeze. It doesn’t harden but you could feel that you are setup for a great hold. The easiness to style is quite similar to Morris Motley’s Treatment Styling Balm, but it’s a bit thicker with better hold. You could feel that it is capable of giving a good volume especially with hair dryer.
