The Nomad Barber founded by Miguel Gutierrez, who is also known for his youtube channel started in 2012, that documents down a series of the barbershops he visited around the world. Born our of Liverpool, England (a.k.a our favourite football club), his passion to learn from other barbers in USA, Nepal, India down to Brazil has made him and his brand so special and well appreciated by many. Today, he 2 barbershops setup in London and Berlin. After a few years of barbering, finally in mid 2018, they have came out with a range of in-house hair products. The name is inspired by the Terai Valley in Nepal. This Grooming Clay is one of the best sellers of all of their products. We are excited to see the workmanship and the end product of a literal nomadic barber, would it live to its expectation? Let’s dive into it right now!

Design and Packaging

The packaging is made out of a good solid tin, having a matte grey black colour coating on it.

Behind the labelings, if observe carefully, it depicts the ancient drawings that can be seen in temples wall. Our guess is most probably this is one of the landmarks in Tepal Valley captured by Miguel himself. In the rest of their products, you could see different designs.

Instructions on how to use is at the bottom with its ingredients list.

This is flight friendly product as it weighs 85G. Well done brother! As a traveller myself, this is an very important feature!

Scent

You will notice a good scent of Cedarwood.

Patchouli is another noticeable scent, a similarity with perfumes by the indian culture.

Fun fact, Patchouli is a plant mostly found in India, China and Southeast Asia. It is a familiar scent that can be found in some essential oils.

However, when mix with Cedarwood, it is unique on its own.

This product so far has been impressive, given the name, the scent is chosen carefully, living up to its name.

Texture & Application

Opening up the cover, you will notice a grey black volcanic colour. Scooping it out was surprisingly quite easy as compared to most clay that are mostly hardens. Its texture is much softer than Kevin’s Murphy Rough Rider, and quite similar to the Ocean Clay by Shehvoo.

In this test, I have blowed dry my hair before application as recommended. When apply the clay using fingers, it was very easy. It does not harden so you could take your time to style. You won’t need a lot of it to get a good shape. For me, 1 – 2 small coin size of it was sufficient. This product is quite versatile, so it’s quite easy to style almost for any short to medium hair styles.
