Introduction of Urban Jack Safety Razor Review

After having 2 rounds of reviews with Urban Jack’s product line, namely the Urban Jack’s Face Moisturiser and Shaving Serum, we are rounding up with the Safety Razor. No doubt we have reviewed the difference between the various types of razors. However, with so many brands having their own version of safety razor, I was curious to find out how does the Urban Jack Safety Razor stands out. Though it looks the same when we unbox it, however there are some elements of surprise after we took it for a ride. Let’s see how it worked out for us!

Brand:

3 Piece Safety Razor

Design & Material

This is a 3 piece safety razor. The advantage with the 3 piece safety razor type is it has less moving parts. Hence, it is less prone to corrosion or breaks.

For the handle, it is made of black & chrome, a high quality material used by most brands. However, the weight of razor is definitely heavier than not only your normal manual razors like the Gillette Fusion ProShield Razor, but also some other safety razor as well. Why do the weight matters? This is to ensure a smoother shave without having to apply too much pressure, especially for safety razors that uses sharper blades.

On the upper part of the razor, it is made of stainless steel with a “Urban Jack” printed on it. It is also designed that any double edge blades can be used together with this safety razor.

Overall, it is a well design safety razor. However, one of the improvements that could be made is on the handle. Maybe either a grip or something to support when handling it.

Application

First, I washed and splashed the moustache area with some warm water to open up the pores. This is to ensure the shaving process to be smoother. Then, I applied the Urban Jack Shaving Serum around the area to be shaven. At an angle of 30 degrees to my face, I started to shave with even and short strokes. I did not need to apply any pressure.

To avoid any cuts or rash, do not scrape upwards as it might hurt your skin. After the shave, I rinse the area with cold water.

Performance

Honestly, I rarely use a safety razor. However, I took time to learn the best practices out there and execute them. Let’s see the result below:

Some leftover at the bottom of the lips was intended.

Overall it was a very clean shave.

After Shave

Durability

For a person who shaves every day, I would have to change the blades once ever 7 days to have a smooth shave.

For the handle, I do not have to change for a long long time since it is made of non corrosive material and seems very durable.

Cost per shave

I require to shave daily. In this calculation, we are assuming the handle can last for at least a year.

The blade just cost me just $0.20 per piece, sometime I can get them at a even cheaper price.

The safety razor cost is around SGD $60. Overall, the total cost for a year will be around SGD 60 + ($0.20 x 52 weeks) = $70.40.

The cost per shave would be around (365 shaves/SGD$70.40) = SGD $0.19. Compared to the manual razors – SGD $0.54 per shaveor subscription shaving packages – SGD $ 0.29 per shave, this is definitely way cheaper.

Verdict

In terms of performance and cost per shave, this safety razor is one of the best out there in the market. However, for all first timers of safety razor, it will take awhile for you to get adjusted to the process and technique. If you would like a quick and go method, I would rather suggest you go for the manual razors or electric ones.

Still, the Urban Jack Safety Razor is recommended because of its high quality material and great performance. For our readers here at Urban Oak, we are glad to work with Urban Jack to to provide you a 25% discounts for any purchases (no minimum amount).
