Hongkonghomebrew Styling Cream Review

Welcome everyone to this 3rd edition of our review with hongkonhomebrew. If you have not seen our previous 2 reviews, we had a great time discovering the different characteristics of the Styling Balm and Styling Clay. By far, our favourite one has been the Styling Clay. So what’s the deal with this 3rd product by this Hongkonghomebrew -The Styling Cream. Our initial guess was it’s gonna be your usual cream-based hair styling products that harden and probably wouldn’t hold too much. Were we right? Let’s get down to it ;)

Design and Packaging

The Styling Cream has no difference in packaging with the other 2. Clean and Simplistic. Housed in a white plastic jar, it has the right amount of information with the mentioned of Ingredients and application. There’s a mention that the product free from elements that might be a little dangerous (if overused) such as paraben, petrolatum, EDTA..etc. Plus it is cruelty free!

Very lightweight, and they kind of gives you a glimpse this might be a lightweight product. It weighs around 85g (3oz). And that, you can carry them with you while travelling on a plane.

Scent

Again no difference with the Styling Balm and Styling Clay. Lemongrass-Like. It comes from a Chinese Herb plant called Litsea cubeba. Known to provide reliefs for anxiety, fear, fatigue, pain or stress. The scent is really soothing and provides a sense of calmness. Not to overpowering, just the right amount. I would say this a job well done! (not unless you dislike lemongrass scent)

Performance of Hongkonghomebrew Styling Cream

Texture

As expected, for a cream-based product, you will expect nothing less than a soft and smooth texture, that you could easily able to broken down over your palm or even spread it easily on your bread ;) Seems like it’s gonna be a smooth application

Application

The application was so easy. I tried it on both dry and damp hair. However, since I prefer more volume, I blew dry it before styling to give more “air” into my hair with some good texture. For a better hold, I was advised to be generous on my scoop, altogether I did around 3 – 4 coin-size amount. Surprisingly, despite the high amount of product I have it on my hair, it did not weigh down and still felt pretty light. After the application, it did feel there are some hardening and a little lumping of hair, but not as super stiff as hair gel type products. It provided a good hold to keep your style in place.

Restylibility

Best to restyle with comb since it will have a slight tug. Using fingers might do the job but not the best.
However, with this product, you actually do not need to restyle much ;)

Shine

Medium Shine

Volume

I would say it does gives a pretty impressive volume when styled with a comb and blow-dry.

Hold

The hold Hongkonghomebtew Styling cream is strong hold product if styled with good amount of scoops (3-4 coin size).

You can also achieve a Medium Hold can also be achieved with 2 coin-size scoops

This is a product suitable for indoor with light outdoor activities with high humidity

Endurance

Overall, the hongkonghomebrew styling cream endured for more than 6 hours without restyling and it even extended to 12 hours with 1 time restyling.

We were wrong about the hold and now we were impressed with the endurance. It does reduce a little towards the very end of the day. But for a cream-based product,
