It’s summertime, which means there’s plenty of sunshine, fresh foods, and motivation to stick to healthy living. But there are also many reasons to celebrate over the summer season, too. Focus on Fueling Your Body

One essential thing you can do to stick to your diet is focus on fueling your body with the right foods instead of which foods can aid weight loss. This includes ensuring you consume enough fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats in each meal.

Meal planning is a great way to ensure you don’t fall off track during the dreaded “middle of the week” feeling when McDonald’s burgers are tempting!

Try to determine how many macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fat) you need in each meal and build them from there. That way, you can eat your meals knowing you’re getting what your body needs.

Stay Hydrated

Often, people mistake hunger for thirst and eat more than their body needs. When you feel hungry, try drinking a cup of water; if you feel full, you are just thirsty! If you’re still hungry, try eating a tasty treat that’s healthy and sweet.

Keeping up with drinking adequate water throughout the day can be challenging, but you’re not alone! Try using a bottle with drinking times so that you know how much water you’re drinking and when you need to finish it. This tip is especially important during the summer season!

Avoid Processed Foods

Processed foods make it hard to stick to a healthy diet because of their addictive ingredients, like fats, sugar, sodium, and more. Many people make the mistake of looking too far into the future and saying, “I’m not going to eat desserts for a whole month!” but cave within a couple of weeks.

Try to take it day by day—when you crave processed foods, ask yourself why and eat whole foods instead. Changing your diet isn’t an easy task, but once you stick with it for a few weeks, you’ll find yourself forgetting what some of those processed desserts taste like and craving healthy food!

Exercise for Stress Relief

Many people force themselves to go to the gym or turn on that YouTube video because they have the mindset of “I have to do this” instead of “I get to do this!”

Working out can pump up your endorphins, lifting your mood and reducing stress. Exercise for fun and stress relief, not because you have to. Try to get in 30 minutes of physical activity each day! Walks around the lake, kayaking, and hiking are all great summer workouts!

Keep Going

It’s so tempting to give up on changing your diet, especially when temptation calls (hello, pizza!), but that’s when our willpower matters the most.

It’s OK to give in sometimes. But to stay healthy and feel good mentally and physically, you must focus on good nutrition. Stay positive, and don’t feel discouraged when you face a setback. Pick yourself up and keep going! Remember, you only fail if you give up.
